Biography

Aja DeZeeuw is honored to have the opportunity to serve CVIT students and their families, by providing academic, career, and social-emotional support. She was born and raised in Superior, graduated from Superior High School, and attended the University of Arizona, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing. After an extensive retail career, she returned to college to pursue her dream of becoming a school counselor, and has served in this role since 2017. She holds two master’s degrees--one in Psychology from the University of the Rockies, and one in School Counseling from the CACREP-accredited Capella University. Her professional interests include trauma-informed educational practices, the effect of adverse childhood experiences on youth, and the effects of trauma on the brain. These interests have led her to become a Certified Youth Mental Health trainer and Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist, and she proudly serves school counselors across Arizona on the Board of Directors for the Arizona School Counseling Association. Outside of her school counseling passion, she likes to spend time with her family, friends, menagerie of pets, and travel throughout the world.
